When I got the call to portray a piano player in HBO's mini-series Watchmen I had no idea what the story was about or how imactful it would be. I actually didn't even understand what an amazing opportunity was being placed in front of me. Thankfully the casting director was persistent and patient enough to convince me that I had to do this.
The series explores race and racism in America in a way that most have never seen. The show is based on the DC Comics series, Watchmen, and is set in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The overlap between the current racial climate in America and the issues dealt with in the series makes now the perfect time to get involved with this story.
As the series develops, one of the themes that is front and center is that of the power of music (in this case piano music) to dominate and shape the human memory. Look for this starting in Episode 6 of the series.
You can see Watchmen FREE this weekend from June 19-21st in honor of Juneteenth.
